Privacy Policy

What this public website collects, what may be shared, and how to contact us about your information.

Effective

Who we are and what this covers

This public website is operated by the volunteer leadership of Scouting America Troop 826 in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, chartered by VFW Post 9473. This policy covers troop826.com and contributions sent from this website to our Eagle Archive.

Our private member application has its own 826 Basecamp privacy practices. Other websites linked here have their own policies.

Information you choose to share

  • Email: When you email the troop, we receive your email address, message and any information or attachments you include. We use them to respond and handle your request.
  • Eagle Archive contributions: The form asks for your name, email address, relationship to the Eagle Scout and permission to preserve and display the material. You may also provide photographs, dates, project details, memories and corrections.
  • Giving requests: The Support page’s gift chooser prepares an email you can open or copy. Choosing an amount does not send a message, create a donation or start a subscription. The troop receives the request only if you send it. This website currently does not collect card or bank details or process payments.

Photographs, stories and public display

Eagle Archive submissions are stored for review in Basecamp. Authorized reviewers can see the submitted material and contributor details. A designated reviewer may receive an email notification that includes the contributor’s name, relationship and type of contribution.

Nothing submitted through the Eagle Archive form is published automatically. Approved photographs, captions, stories and project information may appear on the public website. Contributor contact fields are kept with the review record and are not automatically added to the public profile.

Public pages can be viewed, copied and indexed by search engines. Share only material you own or have permission to provide, and avoid putting personal contact details or other private information into captions or stories. Parents or guardians should handle submissions for children under 13.

Browsing, cookies and outside services

You do not need an account to browse this website. Our hosting and supporting services may process ordinary request information, such as IP address, browser information, requested pages and request times, to deliver and protect the site.

If you choose Allow analytics, we load Google Analytics to understand visits, traffic sources and activity such as page views, scrolling, link clicks, downloads and form interactions. Google receives technical information from your browser and uses analytics cookies to distinguish visits. Our custom events count actions such as opening an Eagle story, opening the archive contribution form and starting a giving request. Those custom events do not include Scout names, contributor contact details, message text, gift amounts or photographs. A giving request is not recorded as a completed donation.

Google Analytics is not loaded before you accept or when you choose No thanks. Advertising storage, advertising personalization and Google Signals are disabled in our tag. Our Analytics cookies and your locally saved choice expire after 180 days. Use Analytics choices in any page’s footer to change your decision; withdrawing consent removes our Analytics cookies and reloads the page to stop tracking. This does not delete information already collected. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

The adventure map loads map software from UNPKG and map tiles from OpenStreetMap. Those providers receive requests from your browser when the map loads. Some public information and photographs load from Basecamp. Social icons are ordinary links; we do not embed social feeds in the footer.

Following links to Google Maps, Google Drive, social networks, TroopWebHost, fundraising services or other websites takes you to services with their own privacy and cookie practices.

How information is used and shared

We use information to answer questions, arrange troop-related support, review contributions, preserve troop history and maintain the website. Service providers supporting these functions include DigitalOcean for hosting and Google for troop email and linked documents. Authorized troop volunteers handle information relevant to their responsibilities.

We do not sell personal information or use contributions for targeted advertising. Information may be disclosed when required by law or necessary to address a safety or security concern.

Corrections, removal and retention

Archive contributions are not automatically deleted after review. Approved history is intended for long-term preservation. Email correspondence and review records may also be retained for follow-up and troop recordkeeping.

You may ask us to review information associated with you or your child, correct an error, or remove a photograph or other personal information. Include the page link and a description of your request. We may need to confirm your relationship to the information before acting. Some records may need to be retained for safety, security or legal obligations, and copies held by other people or search engines may remain outside our control.

Contact us

Email [email protected] with a privacy question, correction or removal request. Please do not email passwords, sign-in codes, payment details or medical records.

We will update this page and its effective date when these practices change.
