Updated June 2025
This uniform information resource guide has been compiled for Troop 826 families. The information consolidates BSA uniform requirements with troop-specific guidelines to help Scouts and parents understand proper uniform standards.
The uniform identifies the Scout as someone special and helps achieve the objectives of Scouting. The uniform by itself can't make a good Scout or a good Troop, but its use will improve both the Scout and the Troop because it is a visible sign of Scouting.
The field uniform (Class "A") is the official uniform of the Boy Scouts of America. It includes pants or shorts, shirt with proper patch placement, belt, socks, and Scout Handbook.
When to Wear: Required for Troop 826 meetings every week at VFW Post 9473, Courts of Honor, recognition dinners, and formal Scouting activities. We also wear our uniform to and from most events.
Official long or short-sleeve shirt with green shoulder loops or epaulets. Patch placement follows BSA guidelines (see Uniform Inspection Sheet section).
Olive-green web with BSA insignia on brass buckle
Official leather with BSA buckle or Scout-related buckle
Official black nylon web belt (with switchback pants)
Any official BSA socks are acceptable. Various styles available at Scout Shop or online.
If worn, must be either the Troop 826 hat or official BSA hat. Scoutmaster determines hat requirements for specific functions.
Official BSA pants are highly recommended. Troop 826 accepts alternate pants in the same green color and shade. Non-cotton materials suggested for quick-dry properties.
Switchbacks Uniform Pants: Perfect for all Scouting occasions, available in Classic Fit (straight leg) and Relaxed Fit (roomier through seat and thigh). Features zip-off legs to convert to shorts.
Uniform Shorts: Deep front pockets, cargo pockets, waterproof pouch, and nylon mesh lining for swimming activities.
Troop 826's activities uniform consists of:
Troop 826 T-shirt with logo
Official Scout pants or shorts
Official BSA socks and belt
When to Wear: High physical activity events such as work details, hikes, camping, and outdoor activities as determined by the Scoutmaster.
Labor Day to Memorial Day: Class A (Field) uniform required for all weekly meetings at VFW Post 9473.
Memorial Day to Labor Day: Class B (Activities) uniform for all weekly meetings.
The Scoutmaster has discretion to modify uniform requirements for specific activities, campouts, or special events. Some high-activity events may not require uniforms.
